Driver pulled over watching video arrested for drugs

A Southern Pines man that was pulled over by law enforcement because he was watching a video while driving was arrested after deputies discovered drugs in his vehichle.

Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields said Jacob Moore, 25, was arrested Wednesday after a traffic stop in Southern Pines on U.S. Highway 1 and Morganton Road.

“Deputies initiated the traffic stop after observing the driver watching a video while operating the vehicle,” said Fields. “During the traffic stop, a search of the vehicle was conducted. As a result of the search, Deputies seized heroin, cocaine, and items of drug paraphernalia.”

Moore was charged with felony possession of heroin, felony possession of schedule II controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, and distracted driving.

The suspect’s bond was set at $5,000. He has a March 3 court date and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
