Drivers arrested after collision

A two-vehicle collision in Lobelia Sunday slowed traffic to a crawl through a usually busy intersection. The crash happened at the intersection of Lobelia Road and McPherson Road around 6 p.m.

A Dodge Avenger and a Chevrolet Colorado collided and stopped at the intersection’s northwest corner, according to officials on the scene. The force of the collision caused air bags to deploy and the front of the Dodge passenger car to be hung up against the rear of the Chevrolet truck. Firefighters had to use specialized equipment to separate the two vehicles so they could be towed from the scene.

Two people were transported to Moore Regional Hospital with unknown injuries, according to Crains Creek Fire Department.

Both male drivers were arrested at the scene on charges of DWI.

Traffic was down to one lane on Lobelia Road while crews worked the scene, and the roadway could be cleared.

Highway Patrol was on scene and is investigating the crash.

Crains Creek Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office and NC Highway Patrol responded.

Defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
