Duck Donuts closed its doors in the Morganton Park South Shopping Center in Southern Pines.

The made to order donut shop on Morganton Road announced on its Facebook page Wednesday morning, “we are sad to say that our Southern Pines location is now permanently closed. We would like to thank all of our customers.”

A sign is posted on its front doors saying the location is closed, and some of the equipment is gone inside the store. They offered no explanation for the closing.

When the Southern Pines Duck Donuts opened in August 2017, there was a line outside the doors even before it opened with locals anxiously waiting for their donut fix.

The franchise is famous for letting customers become donut artists by creating their own masterpiece by choosing their coating and toppings.

The first Duck Donuts opened in Duck, NC in 2007.  In 2012, they grew to 4 stores, and now there are 167 stores.

Moore County residents will now have to travel to Fayetteville for Duck Donuts.
