Failure to yield causes school bus crash

A Moore County school bus was involved in a crash at the intersection of Highway 15-501 and Highway 24/27 in Carthage around 4:30 Thursday. Authorities say that a transit van failed to yield to oncoming traffic after stopping at a stop sign and was struck by school bus No. 72 traveling southbound on Highway 15-501.

The school bus had 24 students on board. Two students, along with the bus driver, were transported to the hospital. The driver of the van was also taken to the hospital.

Several parents parked at Bojangles and walked across the street to pick up their kids, and the remaining students were taken on a replacement bus.

The intersection was closed while the scene was cleared, with officials rerouting traffic through the light at the intersection of Glendon-Carthage Road and Monroe Street.

The Moore County Sheriff’s Office, Moore County EMS, Carthage Fire Department, and officials from Moore County Schools responded to the incident.
