O’Neal honors student achievement, character

The O’Neal School recognized the accomplishments, creativity, and character of its middle school students during its annual awards ceremony on Wednesday, celebrating a year defined by scholarship, leadership, and growth.

The program opened by honoring student participation in a wide range of co-curricular activities, including Science Olympiad, Battle of the Books, and the schoolwide production of Willy Wonka, the school announced in a news release. Students selected for the Junior Beta Club were also recognized for their academic excellence and commitment to service.

Departmental awards followed, with faculty members recognizing students who demonstrated outstanding achievement in their respective disciplines:

*World Languages Award: Lily Austin, for her curiosity, dedication, and growth in language and cultural studies.

*Performing Arts Award: Izzy Grotzke, recognized for exceptional talent and contributions across theater and music programs.

*Science Award: Abigail Holroyd, for her curiosity, dedication, and commitment to scientific inquiry.

*Mathematics Award: Tyler Kuhn, for enthusiasm, perseverance, and strong problem-solving skills.

*History Award: Lainey Murphy, for diligence, engagement, and collaborative spirit.

*English Award: Olivia Hostler, for insightful analysis, thoughtful discussion, and a passion for literature.

*Headmaster’s Gallery Art Award: Abigail Holroyd, for artistic excellence, creativity, and craftsmanship.

The ceremony also recognized scholarship recipients and student leaders. Abigail Schupp was honored as a Helen Pringle Holmberg Scholarship recipient, reflecting her leadership and well-rounded contributions to the school community. Students receiving the Rising Falcon Scholarship were recognized for their character, involvement, and positive impact on campus.

A special recognition was given to members of the 10-Year Falcon Club, students who have spent their entire academic journey at O’Neal, growing together as a community. Honorees included Lily Austin, Ava Bozovich, Isla Haughey,  Abigail Holroyd, Tyler Kuhn, Ella Marino, Amelia Neville, and Adalyn Pohlmeyer.

Citizenship Awards were presented to students who consistently demonstrate kindness, integrity, and leadership:

*Grade 5: Elijah Lee

*Grade 6: Casen Dowd

*Grade 7: Rafe Hardee

*Grade 8: Olivia Garcia

The prestigious O’Neal Award, the school’s highest honor recognizing integrity, leadership, service, and academic excellence, was awarded to:

*Grade 5: Madeleine Beckman

*Grade 6: Adrianne Kim

*Grade 7: Maddie Leland

*Grade 8: Adalyn Pohlmeyer

Two additional special awards highlighted student growth and character:

*J. Garner Dodd Award (Improvement): Haddie Habets, recognizing perseverance and academic progress.

*James R. Miles Award (Character and Leadership): Lainey Murphy, honoring determination, cooperation, and school spirit.
