A family of three and their two cats are safe after a fire broke out in the garage attached to the home. The blaze happened late Saturday night, just before 10 p.m., at a house in the 500 block of Martin Road in Eagle Springs.
According to authorities on scene, the fire started in the garage attached to the two-level home by a breezeway and, due to windy conditions, quickly spread towards the upper part of the home.
A rapid response time and great fire attack stopped the blaze from actually reaching inside the home itself and was contained to the garage area, which was a total loss.
The house itself suffered smoke damage. There was initially a life hazard as one of the three occupants of the home was in the basement area when the fire broke out, but a firefighter was able to assist the resident to safety.
Two cats were also in the home but made it out safely.
Due to the location of the residence down a long driveway off the main road, responding units had to stage on Martin Road, which was shut down while crews worked. An extended length of large fire hose along with a drop tank setup were used to send water to the engines.
The Moore County Fire Marshal was on scene, and the cause of the fire is under investigation. Multiple departments, including neighboring Montgomery County, responded to the fire.
Moore County Sheriff’s Office and Moore County EMS were also on scene.
