One person lost their life, and another was believed to have life-threatening injuries in a wreck in Southern Pines Tuesday. The wreck occurred on Indiana Avenue at the intersection with N. Bethesda Road shortly before 6 p.m.
The accident involved a car and a Chevrolet pickup truck pulling a large-enclosed trailer. The collision left both vehicles off the road and into trees.
As first responders arrived, they called for a helicopter, but it could not fly due to the weather.
Firefighters used hydraulic tools to extricate the male passenger from the car. He was immediately transported by paramedics to Moore Regional Hospital with serious injuries. The elderly female driver, from Southern Pines, was pronounced dead at the scene.
One person in the truck sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The deceased’s identity has not been released pending notification of the family.
This is the fourth fatality accident in 10 days Sandhills Sentinel has reported in Moore County.
