Firefighters save townhouses

A rainy Saturday didn’t slow down several local fire departments from stopping a fire from destroying multiple townhouses in Woodlake Country Club in Vass. Emergency units were dispatched to the fire at one of the townhomes in a complex on Bald Cypress Drive just before 11 a.m.

The first arriving fire unit advised that smoke was showing from the exterior. Once firefighters reached the unit at the rear of the complex, they found a fire on the porch that was quickly spreading to the unit’s interior.

Within minutes, the fire was contained and under control. The porch and exterior of the single unit were heavily damaged by fire, along with some damage to the inside. Neither of the connected units were damaged in the fire other than some damage to the exterior wall.

The resident was displaced from the unit due to the fire damage, and the American Red Cross is assisting.

The fire marshal was on the scene investigating the cause of the fire.

Responding to the scene were Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Crains Creek Fire Department, Spout Springs Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office and Moore County Public Safety.
