First responders rescue driver trapped in truck

First responders rescued a driver who was trapped in his truck after a wreck on U.S. 1 Business near Cameron on Thursday afternoon, according to Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue’s Facebook page.

The pickup truck hit a tree, and the man was pinned in his vehicle from the waist down, said Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue. Carthage Fire Department came to assist in rescuing the man. 

“The victim was alert and talking but was in some pain due to his position in the vehicle,” said Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue.The driver-side door had to be forced open, the steering wheel had to be removed and the dash had to be lifted off of the patient. While the fire department was working to extricate the victim, EMS gained access from the opposite side of the firefighters and were able to complete a partial medical assessment and start an IV on the patient.”

The man was airlifted to a trauma center.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol was the investigation unit.
