Flyers capture team, individual titles at Rodeo at the Ridge

The Sandhills Community College golf team left little doubt at the Rodeo at the Ridge, hosted by Fayetteville State at Quail Ridge Country Club at the end of September, as the Flyers secured both the team championship and the individual medalist honor.

Sandhills posted a three-round total of +16, finishing 15 shots clear of second-place Winston-Salem State (+31). Bluefield State (+40) and Chowan (+49) rounded out the top four in the seven-team field, according to a Sandhills Community College news release.

Sophomore Wyatt Beaver continued his outstanding fall season, finishing at 5-under par (70–66–75) to claim the individual title by seven strokes. Beaver was the only player in the field to finish under par for the tournament.

Sophomore and defending national champion Vegas Melen turned in a strong closing round of 71 to tie for fifth place at +5, while Michael Switzer (+10), Robert Reedy (+14), and Sebastian Haug (+17) all contributed to the team victory.

The Flyers also had two individuals in the field: Drake Hull (+12) and Trace Wallace (+13), who both earned top-25 finishes.

The tournament featured several familiar faces for Sandhills fans. Former Flyers Connor Lineberry (Winston-Salem State) and Landon Cabingas (Fayetteville State) were among the competitors, finishing at +16 and +19, respectively, while representing their four-year programs.
