The Sandhills Community College Flyers men’s basketball team gathered Wednesday afternoon inside the Game Room at the Dempsey Student Center to learn their placement in the 2024-25 NJCAA Division III National Championship Tournament.
After an impressive regular season, the Flyers posted a 27-6 overall record and a 9-1 mark in Region 10. Following their Region 10 Championship and NJCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic District Championship victories, Sandhills will head to Herkimer, N.Y., as the No. 4 seed in the tournament.
This marks the Flyers’ seventh consecutive appearance in the national tournament. They enter on a 14-game winning streak and will face the winner of No. 5 seed Herkimer College, this year’s tournament host, and No. 12 seed Dallas Mountain View. Sandhills’ first game is set for Thursday, March 13, at 3 p.m.
“First of all, it’s a credit to our team, our guys, to be the fourth seed in this national tournament,” Flyers head coach Mike Apple said. “If you look at where we started and where we are now, it’s been tremendous growth for our basketball team. I am very proud of them. We’ve got our work cut out for us. Obviously, Herkimer College, as the host team, will have a home-court advantage, and the team from Dallas will be battle-tested and tough.”
