The O’Neal School announced Frank and Missy Quis as honorary co-chairs for the school’s 2024 Benefit: Yellowstone — A Cowboy Chic Affair to happen on Saturday, Feb. 10.
The Quis family became a part of the O’Neal community in 1976 when Missy was hired as a middle school English teacher. Frank and Missy’s three children are O’Neal alumni. Missy was director of admissions for the school in the early 2000s, and Missy has served on the board of trustees three different times within three different decades. She has also served as president of the Parents Association. Presently, as a trustee, Missy is the development committee chair.
“I value so much the relationships with the teachers, administrators, and fellow parents, and I feel lucky to have been able to serve in different roles with the school and see its work from different perspectives,” says Missy. “We have such a long history with O’Neal,” adds Frank. “We were there for its early years and have been present to watch it grow and continue to serve the community.”
Frank and Missy moved to Southern Pines as newlyweds in 1976. For more than 35 years, they owned and managed Quis Machinery, Inc., an industrial machinery distributor. Their children — Ginny ’96 and Roberta ’99, played volleyball for Davidson College. Randy, ’01, went to NC State University. All three of the children are living and working in Charlotte and have blessed Frank and Missy with five grandchildren.
Frank has been a longtime public servant to the town of Southern Pines as well as Moore County. For Southern Pines, he served on the town council for eight years and as mayor for 10 years. He currently is serving on the Moore County Board of Commissioners in his second term. Frank has previously served as chair for three years. He also serves on the Penick Village Board of Directors.
Missy was the Moore County Community Foundation’s 2014 Woman of the Year. She has served as president of the Coalition for Human Care and on the inaugural boards for the Boys and Girls Club and First Health of the Carolinas. Frank and Missy both are active with Brownson Presbyterian Church.
“My involvement in public service has reinforced my belief that The O’Neal School is a true asset to the Sandhills area,” says Frank. “It has provided an opportunity for many to receive an exceptional education.” Missy adds, “Even though we’re no longer parents, over the years, we continue to appreciate what the school means to our community.”
Regarding this year’s benefit, Missy remarks, “I’ve noticed in recent years how everyone is so spirited and enthusiastic about the theme of the benefit. I love the aspect of how everyone is ‘into it,’ and I think this year’s theme is going to be particularly fun.”
The greater community is invited to attend The O’Neal School Benefit: Yellowstone — A Cowboy Chic Affair on Feb. 10 at the new Village Pine Venue in Carthage. The Benefit is O’Neal’s largest fundraising event that supports student programs as well as faculty and staff professional development. An online auction will precede the event, where anyone may register for free to bid on items. The event itself will feature a live auction, raffles, cocktails, a seated dinner by Elliotts on Linden, and entertainment. Benefit tickets will be available to purchase online in January.
