Head-on crash near Union Pines High shuts down road, results in charges

A head-on collision on a snowy Tuesday evening in Cameron shut down Grady Road and sent two people to the hospital. The crash occurred just before 6 p.m. near the intersection of Grady Road and Almond Drive.

According to officials on scene, a Mercedes passenger car traveling north on Grady Road crossed the centerline and collided with a Ford truck traveling south towards Union Church Road. The collision caused the Mercedes to spin around before coming to a stop.

Cypress Pointe Fire Department was initially dispatched as a second rescue due to a possible pin-in but was released shortly after arriving when it was determined all occupants could safely exit the vehicles.

Both drivers were transported to Moore Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Mercedes is reportedly being charged with DWI, according to North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The Mercedes sustained significant front-end damage from the impact. The front driver-side wheel was ripped off of the Ford truck, causing it to skid down the hill on its lower control arm before coming to a stop on the shoulder.

Debris from the crash was scattered across nearly 100 yards.

Grady Road was shut down for just over an hour while crews worked the scene and the vehicles were removed.

Responding units included Carthage Fire Department, Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Moore County EMS, and the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
