A resident of Pennsylvania Avenue Extension in Southern Pines has their neighbor to thank for saving their home. The neighbor noticed smoke and flames coming from around the front door of the home and called 911 just before midnight Saturday.
No one was at home when the blaze broke out.
Fire units responded and were able to keep the fire from spreading to the rest of the home. The front room and an upstairs room did suffer fire damage, but the fire was contained to those areas.
Fire investigators were working to determine the cause of the fire.
Responding to the structure fire were Southern Pines Fire Rescue, Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Whispering Pines Fire & Rescue, and Pinehurst Fire & Rescue. Also on the scene were Moore County EMS and Southern Pines Police.
