Portions of U.S. 1 in Moore County will be closed overnight this week to allow for utility work, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).
The closures will affect both directions of U.S. 1 between Roseland Road and U.S. 15-501, as well as the stretch from West Main Street in Aberdeen to Old U.S. 1 in Southern Pines.
Work is scheduled to take place nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Tuesday, Jan. 27, through Tuesday, Feb. 3. The work is weather-dependent.

Area of the scheduled work as seen on NCDOT’s website.
“Please pay close attention to posted signs for directions and be cautious as you drive through active construction zones,” writes NCDOT.
The official plan states that the changes are intended to improve safety and ease traffic congestion along U.S. 15-501, U.S. 1, and N.C. 5 in Moore County. Proposed improvements will include the addition of a raised median and limiting left turns in most areas.
The project’s timeline estimates that construction will be complete in Fall 2028.
