A longtime chapter in Aberdeen’s history is coming to a close as Page Memorial Library prepares to shut its doors, making way for a new, modern library facility set to open later this month in the downtown area.
Tuesday, Jan. 13, marks the final day Page Memorial Library will operate as part of the Moore County and Sandhill Regional Library systems. Town and library officials alike have acknowledged the building’s importance to generations of residents, calling it a cherished space filled with memories for the community.
“We’ll miss this charming little building that’s filled with memories for many Aberdeeners (Aberdeen-ites?), but we look forward to creating more memories at the new library when it opens for business,” writes the Moore County Library.
While the historic library is closing, the transition marks a new beginning. The new Aberdeen Library, located at 123 Exchange Street, is scheduled to open to the public on Jan. 28.
Ahead of the opening, the town will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26. The public is invited to attend alongside local officials and members of the Friends of the Aberdeen Library.
The new 4,100-square-foot facility features updated interior design, dedicated spaces for reading and studying, expanded areas for educational programs and community events, and modern technology. The library sits in the heart of downtown, adjacent to the Artists League of the Sandhills, Main Street Park, and a nearby garden park.
Aberdeen is the largest town in Moore County that is part of the Sandhill Regional Library System, and the new library will be the second largest of the five libraries within the system.
