A motorcyclist was airlifted from Cameron Saturday morning after she was hit and severely injured. The two-vehicle crash happened around 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of N.C. Highway 24-27 and Nickens Road.
According to North Carolina State Highway Patrol on scene investigating the hit and run crash, an early 2000’s model brown or tan Chevrolet Tahoe was crossing onto Nickens Road from Dalrymple Road when the driver failed to yield or stop for a Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling toward Carthage from Cameron on N.C. Highway 24-27.
The Tahoe collided with the motorcycle, sending it and the rider sliding across the intersection to the edge of a field.
Sandhills Sentinel spoke to a couple of the first responders on scene, who reported that two men in the military traveling through the area came upon the crash and were able to apply a tourniquet to the rider because her left leg had been “detached” in the crash.
A BOLO was immediately put out to law enforcement in the area for the suspect vehicle, which should have front-end damage, including a missing front bumper and driver’s side rear hubcap.
The female motorcycle rider was in stable condition at the scene and was airlifted from the scene to a trauma center.
N.C. Highway 24-27 was down to one lane while crews worked the scene and Highway Patrol investigated.
Responding units were Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Moore County EMS, and N.C. Highway Patrol.
