Fire in Vass displaces resident and her pets

A mobile home in Vass caught fire and was heavily damaged Sunday afternoon. The fire broke out shortly before 2 p.m. at a home on White Rock Place, just outside of Vass town limits.

A member of the Cypress Pointe Fire Department was first on scene and reported to dispatch that the resident and her pets had safely evacuated the home, but there was heavy fire visible.

When the first engine arrived on scene, a second alarm was requested for tankers and manpower due to the home being located down a long dirt road.

Multiple departments fought the blaze, but the home sustained significant damage. The roof had begun to sag due to the significant structural damage.

The resident’s pets, which included two dogs and a cat, were safe. Paramedics on scene gave the cat oxygen due to smoke inhalation.

Duke Energy shut off the power to the home as a result of the extent of the damage.

Red Cross is assisting the resident.

Moore County Fire Marshal was on scene and is investigating the cause of the fire.
