A near head-on collision Sunday night left two vehicles with significant damage and sent one man to the hospital. The crash happened at the intersection of Vass-Carthage Road and McIntosh Road, about a mile and a half outside Vass town limits, around 9 p.m.
According to North Carolina State Highway Patrol on scene investigating, a Saturn passenger car traveling west toward Whispering Pines traveled across the center line and collided almost head-on with a Ford Crown Victoria traveling east toward Vass.
Both vehicles came to a stop just off the roadway.
The Ford sustained heavy damage to the driver’s side. The Saturn, too, was heavily damaged, and its front wheel was ripped completely off during the impact.
The driver of the Ford was not injured in the crash, but the driver of the Saturn was transported to Moore Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
One lane of Vass-Carthage Road was shut down while crews worked the scene and the vehicles were removed.
Responding units were Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Moore County EMS, and N.C. Highway Patrol.
