Man flees on foot while being served warrant

Aberdeen Police Chief Brian Chavis said a man fled on foot after officers attempted to serve him with an outstanding warrant.

Thirty-five-year-old Aberdeen resident John Chamalian Jr. was arrested on charges of felony breaking or entering a building, felony larceny after breaking or entering, felony possession of schedule Il controlled substance, and three counts of resisting a public officer.

“On February 26, 2024, Patrol Officers and Investigators with the Aberdeen Police Department responded to a business in the area of Johnson St and 15-501 N, in reference to a breaking and entering that previously occurred,” said Chavis in a news release. “Aberdeen Officers and Investigators were able to identify the suspect as Chamalian, based on further investigation and review of video surveillance. A warrant for arrest, based on the evidence obtained, was issued for Chamalian, and officers attempted to locate him.”

The next day, the Aberdeen Police Department located the suspect and attempted to serve him with an outstanding warrant.

“After a pursuit on foot ensued, Chamalian was detained and arrested,” said Chavis. “At the time of his arrest, Chamalian was found to be in possession of a Schedule Il Controlled Substance.”

The name of the business that was broken into was not released.

All suspects and persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
