A man found slumped over inside a vehicle at McDonald’s fast-food restaurant in Aberdeen is facing drug and embezzlement charges. The man was identified as fifty-two-year-old Christopher Goodwin, of Rockingham.
The case began on Feb. 14 when officers with the Aberdeen Police Department were called to the McDonald’s parking lot on Highway 1.
“Upon arrival, Officers identified the male as Goodwin, after awakening him inside his vehicle,” said the Aberdeen Police Department in a statement to Sandhills Sentinel. “It was determined that Goodwin had an outstanding warrant out of Richmond County for Embezzlement. During the arrest for the warrant, Goodwin was searched before being taken to the Moore County Jail. During the search, a bottle containing 4 small bags with a white powder-like substance, believed to be narcotics, was located in his pocket.”
Aberdeen Police Department said the substance was submitted for testing.
“On April 30, 2025, the results from the State Crime Lab confirmed that the substance in Goodwin’s possession was Fentanyl, and warrants were obtained on him for Felony Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance.”
Attempts were made to locate Goodwin, but he was not found in Aberdeen. The same day, Goodwin was located by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and taken into custody.
Goodwin was taken before a Richmond County magistrate, who gave him no bond due to a post-release condition of the previous bond.
