Man survives after car rolls over into pond

A man survived after his vehicle rolled over into a pond near Vass on Sunday. The single-vehicle wreck occurred on Lobelia Road near Morrison Bridge Road around 1 p.m.

Moore County EMS took him to Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

“Upon arrival found a Volkswagen Rabbit submerged and the driver on the pond dam,” said Crains Creek Fire Department on its Facebook page. “Driver stated he was ok and he was only occupant. There was a bystander that had went in the water to assist that was also ok.”

The car was fully submerged in the water, with the roof’s antenna sticking out. A tow truck pulled the car out of the water. Officials opened the doors to drain the water from the car as much as possible. 

Crains Creek Fire Department said the driver was transported to the hospital “for observation and to assist in getting warm.”

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol also assisted on the scene.
