The Moore Philharmonic Orchestra is now accepting applications for its 2018 student scholarship.

Each of the last 13 concert seasons, the Orchestra has awarded scholarships to deserving instrumental music students in Moore County to help them develop their skills.  Past recipients of the scholarship applied the proceeds to help pay for private lessons, attend summer music camps and purchase higher quality instruments.

Applicants must be current instrumental students in public, private, or accredited home schools in Moore County or be an active member of the Moore Philharmonic Orchestra and must not have reached the age of 21 by December 31, 2017.

Completed applications must be received by the Orchestra no later than March 29, 2018 at 6:30 pm.  Candidates may be required to prepare a short audition piece of their choice (candidates will be notified of audition times).

Scholarships will be announced at the Spring Concert at Sandhills Community College on May 12, 2018  Applications and more information are available on the Orchestra’s website, www.mporchestra.com.

Since 2005, the Moore Philharmonic Orchestra has served the Sandhills community supporting music appreciation and education.  It provides an outlet for approximately 50 volunteer musicians to perform varied programs of orchestral literature.

Members include adults and talented college, high school and middle school students.  It is a non-profit 501c(3) organization and relies on individual and business contributions to cover operating and general expenses and to support a scholarship fund benefitting Moore County music students.  The Orchestra is a member of the Moore County Arts Council, the Moore County Chamber of Commerce and the League of American Orchestras.
