Nurse aide graduates at SCC receive certificates

Graduates at Sandhills Community College (SCC) entering into the nurse aide profession were presented with their certificates by faculty and staff on Tuesday, May 12 in Kennedy Hall. Presiding over the ceremony was Marta Braun-Kane, Nurse Aide Program Coordinator. SCC President Sandy Stewart, offering the closing remarks.

Nurse Aides make a difference in patients’ lives in many ways, but becoming a nurse aide requires a lot of hard work and dedication to earn the certificate of completion and pass the state registry exam. The nursing pin has a long history, dating back more than 1,000 years to the 12th-century crusades. By 1916, pinning ceremonies were common in the United States, said SCC in a release. Since then, colleges and universities have created their own pins.

SCC has a gold pin for Nurse Aide I’s and a silver one for students who complete the Nurse Aide II course. This is a time-honored tradition, and for the NA student who chose to purchase a pin, the instructor “pinned” them on the last day of class. This special moment symbolizes NA students’ achievement of completing the educational requirements and marks their transition into the health care profession.

Nursing assistant instructors Diana Lasater, Joshua Oxendine, Abby Sellek, Jill Wiley, presented the Nurse Aide I certificate to each recipient from Pinehurst and Hoke including:
