Obituary for Albert Dunham of Southern Pines

Albert “Bud” Dunham, 98, of Southern Pines, passed away on Tuesday November 14, 2023.

Al was one of the greatest of the greatest generation. Serving in the Army Air Corps, as a gunner on the B-24. He loved his family, God, country, and poker! He never forgot his roots in Millville, NJ; where he was one of four siblings growing up during the great depression. There he also met the love of his life and wife of 73 years, Polly. Soon after marrying, Al and Polly were off to his beloved Chi Town working for T.C. Wheaton Glass. Years later Al was transferred to glorious Palos Verdes Estates, CA; working for the Risdon Corporation. Beautiful California provided twelve months out of the year to hone in on his golf and singles tennis games. When he wasn’t on the golf course or tennis court, his passion for wood working took over. Finally, it was time to retire to beautiful Lake Pinehurst. During his early retirement, AL gave his time and energy to several local charities with the Shaw House being one of his favorites.

He is survived by his daughter Sherry Samkus of Southern Pines; his son, Tom Dunham of Gallatin, TN; his dear sister, Doris Rieck of Matthews, NC; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; “Rest in sweet heavenly peace Dad”.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to FirstHealth Hospice and Palliative Care at 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374

Services entrusted to Boles Funeral Home of Southern Pines.
