Obituary for Donald Wayne Hardee

Donald Wayne Hardee, of Seven Lakes, passed peacefully at FirstHealth Hospice House on Monday June 26, 2023 with his family by his side.

He was born January 12, 1933 in Harnett County to the late John Calvin and Ida Womble Hardee. He was preceded by his wife Betty Hardee to whom he was married for 27 years, sisters, Vandelia Hart, and Ruby Washington; brothers, Clarence, Reece and Mack Hardee.

He is survived by his daughters, Yuvonda Hendricks (Don), Angela Brustad (Greg); stepdaughters, Carol Allen (Fred), and Janet Shephard; granddaughters, Allison Matthews, Aimee Bray (CR), Erin Vereen (Todd), Laura Scott (Dan), Catherine Allen (Jimmy) and Brooke Shephard; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Melba Young, Betty Stewart, and many nieces and nephews.

Wayne was defined by his Christian faith, strength of character and determination. He courageously battled Parkinson’s Disease. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, a quiet steady man who set a good example with his kind spirit and work ethic. He enjoyed wood working, history, travel, and sports, especially golf which he played as long as he was able. His passion for sports was continued after his diagnosis with Parkinson’s Disease to include Rock Steady Boxing of which he was a charter member. This program was life changing.

He served his country in the US Army from 1953-1955. He graduated from Buies Creek High School, attended Campbell University and was an active member of First Baptist Church of Pinehurst.

Funeral Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Pinehurst on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 11 A.M. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 10 AM. Interment following at 2:30 PM  at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh.
