Obituary for Freddie Gene Carlyle of Cameron

Freddie Gene Carlyle, age 84, of Cameron, passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 4:00 pm at Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Johnson Grove Cemetery in Vass. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 3 until 4.

Freddie was born in Moore County on August 13, 1939 to the late Eck Escar Carlyle and Bernice McDonald Carlyle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Burnette Carlyle, son, Wayne Douglas Carlyle, brothers, Sammy and Mike Carlyle.

Freddie was a man that words could never do justice to describe. Extremely hardworking, fun, giving and loving just scratch the surface of what kind of man he was. If you ever met him then chances are he at least tried to get you to pull a barn, and if you did, you instantly became family. Farming was his way of life for a long time.

Him and Ruby opened up the Carlyle Country Store when farming slowed down and he learned to relax a little by spending time in the rocking chair of the store (Ruby right beside him) welcoming anyone who came in and had a minute to sit and chat with him. He never met a stranger, and you always felt happier after even the smallest conversation with him.

He was the best and most proud Daddy, Grandpa and Husband. He was the true leader of the family that everyone looked up to and was just as proud to call him theirs. His sons and grandsons aspired to be like him and will continue to do so. His daughter and granddaughters were spoiled by his love and searched for a “Freddie” themselves, and those spouses will have the biggest shoes to fill.

For all of the love he gave, he received it in tenfold and lived a life worth talking about for generations to come.

He is survived by his daughter, Debbie Carlyle Phillips (Dean), sons, Danny Carlyle (Cindy), Tony Carlyle (Melinda) all of Cameron; grandchildren, Tiffany, Morgan, Darin, Ashley, Brandon, Casey; great-grandchildren, Addi, Carley, Remi, Anastasia, Weston; sisters, Linda Cole and Betty Jones both of Sanford; brothers, Carlton Carlyle (Ann) of Pinehurst, Johnny Carlyle (Eve) of Carthage.
