Obituary for John Vernon Holton

John Vernon Holton, 61, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 28th at the FirstHealth Hospice House.

John was born January 24, 1960, in Honolulu, HI to the late James Edward and Mildred Tomoe Holton.  His family moved to North Carolina when he was a young and after his high school graduation, he attended both Methodist College and NC State University.  John had worked alongside his brother at Pizza Café in Pinehurst for many years and for the past two years, he was the general manager of the Microtel Inn in Southern Pines. John was a diehard Miami Dolphins and Boston Celtics fan.  He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family, especially time with the grandchildren at the beach.  

John is survived by his children:  Matthew Holton (wife Allison), Jeremy Holton (wife Megan) and Nathan Holton; two grandchildren Jacelynn Holton and Zander Holton.  He is also survived by his brothers James Holton (wife Kristin), David Holton and Eddie Joe Holton; sisters Debbie Campbell; stepmother Gay Holton; a very special niece Sylvia Templeton; other nieces, two; former wives Maria Holton, Charlotte Holton, and very special friend Amy Walters.  

A visitation will be held at Boles Funeral Home, 425 W. Pennsylvania Avenue, Southern Pines, NC 28387 on Sat. Nov. 6th from 1:00 – 3:00 PM.  A memorial service will begin at 3:00 PM officiated by Rev. Joe Keen. 

John’s family wishes to extend their appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to the Nurses and staff at the FirstHealth Hospice House for all of their care, compassion and dignity in caring for him.
