John Wesley McDonald of Hamlet passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2022, at the age of 81.

John was born in Hamlet on January 29, 1940, to the late Willie and Sallie Lee McDonald. Growing up in Richmond John enjoyed spending time in the outdoors hunting and fishing. Following high school, he worked as a carpenter until he was drafted to the U.S. Army. Following his time in the service, he began working for JP Stevens where he was the lead machinist. He worked for JP Stevens for nearly 30 years before the plant closed. John had a big heart and was a loving family man. Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, W.C. McDonald, and his sister, Hattie McDonald Bates.

He leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Jerry McDonald; his daughters, Frances Talbert and Anne Hildreth and her husband, Eddie; his son, Fred McDonald; his sisters, Darlene McDonald, Brenda Clifton, and Linda Overton; his brothers, James McDonald and Charlie McDonald; his grandchildren, Dustin, Tristan, Miranda, Kristen, Laura, and Nick; three great-grandchildren, Hayley, Jason, and Leah

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, on Friday, January 7, 2021, at Mount Calvary/Rock of Ages Church, 464 County Home Rd, Rockingham, NC 28379. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

At the family’s request, a face mask will be required for the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Richmond County, 1119 US 1 N, Rockingham, NC 28379.

Care of the family is entrusted to Crumpler Funeral Home-Aberdeen.
