Obituary for Levon Joseph Engle of Southern Pines

Joseph Levon Engle, 68, passed away with his daughters at his bedside in Garner, NC, on September 14, 2023, after a ten-year battle with cancer. He closed his eyes peacefully, believing he would be awakened in paradise with his loved ones.

Levon was born on May 11, 1955, in Conway, SC, to Joseph and Jocelean Engle. He was raised in South Carolina in his early
years. Later in life, Levon moved to Southern Pines, NC where he attended Pinecrest High School and met his two lifelong best friends. He spent his free time playing his favorite sport, basketball, a hobby that he would later enjoy with his youngest daughter. He loved collecting antique classic cars, working on cars, reading, and music.

He believed in the foundation of the family. He loved being a momma’s boy, a doting father, a supportive brother, and a well-loved uncle. He was an honest and humble man with a pure soul. His light was felt by all that he met. He was a quiet man with a soothing presence.

He worked as a janitor for over 40 years, ending the last nine years of his career at St. Joseph’s of the Pines. Many spoke highly of his work ethic. However, the job he took pride in the most was being a father.

Levon was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Engle (2023) and Jocelean Engle (2003), his siblings, Micheal Engle (1970), Terry Engle (2013), Rosemary Gary (2017), and Victor Engle (2021).

Levon will continue to live on through his two daughters, Felicia Lee of Myrtle Beach, SC and Charnetta Frye of Garner, NC; the highlights of his life, his grandchildren Nazyah Gamble, Tanaysia Gamble, Lov’e-Jocelyn Engle, Ny’jeah Gamble, Maurice White Jr., Nadeja Lee, Chances Johnston, Jalayah Lee, and Sage Johnston; his childhood best friend, Johnny Gardner of Biscoe, NC; a special friend, Tanya McFarland of Pinehurst, NC; his siblings, Linda Engle of Myrtle Beach, Priscilla Bowens of Myrtle Beach, Wincey Blue of Aberdeen, NC, James Engle of Myrtle Beach, and Eric Hart of Columbia, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
