Robert Lerton Young, 83, of Pinehurst, NC passed on 2/20/2020 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, NC.

Robert “Bob” Young was born 2/21/1936 in Columbus, OH, to the late Robert and Beatrice Young. Bob attended Millikin University and Ohio State University. He served in the United States Army. Bob’s influence on the insurance industry was significant. In 1969 Bob founded a small insurance claims service company in San Francisco. That company grew to 500 people and one of the most influential companies in insurance industry and by then headquartered in Chicago. Bob retired in 1996 after turning the operation over to his successor. That company now is 27,000 people in 65 countries and is the largest administrator in insurance worldwide and is widely regarded as the one of the most significant impacts on insurance worldwide from its humble beginnings with Bob’s vision and passion.

Bob was an avid music lover and incredibly involved in the Barbershopper’s Golf Capital Chorus in Pinehurst, NC for many years. He loved golf and was a member of the Tin Whistles. Bob also loved reading books, especially a good mystery as well as classic movies. In addition, he enjoyed fine cuisine, wine, traveling, crossword puzzles, and was most definitely a dog lover.

Bob was a wonderful brother and uncle and is survived by his sister, Mary Lou Young King and his nieces Nicole King and Kimberly Morrow. He was able to enjoy his last few years with us with many thanks to the caregiving of Elizabeth Sammons and her therapy dog, Lacey.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife Caroline, his parents Robert and Beatrice Young, and his beloved dogs Murphy and Calloway “Callie”.
