Robert Archie “Bob” Thorpe was born on Nov 20, 1926, the third child of Archie and Olive Thorpe (née Sautter) of Whitesboro, NY.

He grew up in Whitesboro, graduated from Whitesboro High School in 1945, after which he enlisted in the US Navy. The war ended while Bob was still in training, but he served as a radio operator in the Pacific fleet following the war.

After his discharge from the Navy, he worked as a salesman. In 1950, he married Jane C. Daz of Ilion, NY, and the couple settled in Mohawk, NY, where they lived for many years. They had two daughters, Leigh and Lynne. About 1960, he began work as an investigator for the NYS Dept. of Labor, where he rose to a supervisory level. During his time in Mohawk, he took an active role in the Volunteer Fire Department for the Village of Mohawk, eventually becoming the Chief of the Department.

In 1974, he moved to Syracuse, where he lived until he retired. In 1992, he married Faith Dulin (née Smith) of Liverpool, NY. After Bob’s retirement, they decided to move to warmer climes, where Bob could play golf year-round. They had a house built in Aberdeen, NC, and Bob lived there for the rest of his life. Bob was a charter member of the Pinehurst United Methodist Church, helping to establish a small congregation that grew over time to become a thriving community.

Bob leaves his wife Faith and his daughter Leigh (his younger daughter Lynne passed away in 2015.) He is also survived by his adopted son-in-law Mark Eamer (husband of Faith’s daughter Tracey, who passed away in 1995), his adopted grandchildren Ryan, Paige, and Grant Eamer-Dulin, and a great-granddaughter Hannah.

A service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at 1:30 pm, Monday April 30, 2018 at Pinehurst United Methodist Church, with Rev. David Beam and Rev. Sarah Swandell officiating. Following the service, family and friends will gather in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s name to the Pinehurst United Methodist Church, 4100 Airport Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374.
