Thank you for coming to celebrate the life of Reverend Thomas Jefferson Conway, 76, of Aberdeen, NC, lovingly known by many as TJ, Tommy, and Paw Paw.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Military Honors officiating Pastor Sidney Wade and Pastor Dennis Patterson. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
Born on August 10, 1947, he died on September 06, 2023, surrounded by his loving wife of 56 years and family.
TJ was born in Smackover, Arkansas. He was the tenth child of fifteen children to Clyde “Frog” Conway and Willy Mae Conway. He was preceded in death by his sisters Carolyn, Joyce, Dorothy, and Betty, and his brothers Billy, Clyde Jr., Kayo, Jerry, John, and James.
Paw is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Nancy McNeill Conway; his two children, Thomas Christopher Conway and his wife Michelle; and his daughter, Jennifer Conway McGee and her husband, Ben. He has three grandchildren, Greg, Piper, and Tyler, and four great-grandchildren: Liam, Zoey, Riley, and Layla. As well as a granddaughter-in-law named Emily, whom he loved dearly.
Tommy lived all of his young life in Smackover, Arkansas, until he enlisted in the Army in 1964 at the age of 17, where he served three years. Stationed in Fayetteville, North Carolina, he met Nancy and was married a year later. Tommy attended Bible College and earned a Doctorate degree from Tennessee Temple University in 1975, becoming Doctor Thomas Conway. Soon after, he moved his young family to various places to preach the gospel. In 1992, He and Nancy founded Solid Rock Baptist Church and Christian School in Aberdeen, North Carolina, which operated for 26 years.
Mr. C. dedicated many years to teaching basic academics and the word and love of God. He taught his kids life skills and loved taking them on adventures. Many of those adventures included ski trips to the Appalachian Mountains. Camping and fishing trips to Blewett Falls. End-of-school-year field trips too many states, from Mexico to Canada and Arkansas to the White House. They visited countless national monuments like Ground Zero at the World Trade Center and Lincoln Home and witnessed a veteran’s funeral at Arlington Cemetery. Many of his school kids wouldn’t have experienced this without him, and it brought him great joy to make these memories with them. His family and friends will never forget him as loving to help people, being optimistic, making people smile, and his love for Coca-Cola.
