Mrs. Joan LaBerne Hufford Mohr, resident of Pinehurst, NC, formerly of Buffalo, NY, passed peacefully on Saturday, January 27th, 2018 at her home surrounded by family, at the age of 89 years young.
She was born on January 10th, 1929 in Buffalo, NY. She graduated from Stoneleigh Burnham School in Greenfield, MA, with a degree in the Arts. She later used her talent as a sketch artist for the government. Joan was an avid athlete, outdoor enthusiast and phenomenal artist. She was also very involved with The Junior League of Buffalo, NY. She spent many of her summers volunteering as a camp counselor at an all-girls summer camp in Chautauqua, NY. She enjoyed boating, sailing, diving, golfing, dancing, and by the time she was 18 years old, obtained her pilot’s license and enjoyed flying Cessnas.
She married Gordon Seth Mohr in 1957 at The Village Chapel in Pinehurst. They made their home in Buffalo, NY and raised three wonderful children.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Mercer Curtis Hufford and LaBerne Hesse Hufford, her brothers, Joel and Jim Hufford and her late husband, Gordon Seth Mohr.
She is survived by her children, Mercer Abbott Mohr, and wife Emily Young, of Sedona, AZ, her daughter, Susan Mohr Alexander, of Pinehurst, NC, and her son, Carlton Seth Mohr, also of Pinehurst, NC. Her grandchildren, Jessica Mohr Luvender, of Greenville, NC and Kelsey Luvender Garner, and husband Gray Garner of Raleigh, NC. She also leaves behind her dog, and constant companion, Schotzie. The family would like to thank Joan’s wonderful caregiver, Megan Cuddihy, for all of her love and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan’s name to First Health Hospice of Moore County. A celebration of Joan’s life will be held at a later date.
