Driver in custody after rollover crash in Carthage

A single-vehicle crash Friday night sent a driver to jail, possibly facing several charges, and left a power pole damaged. The crash happened in the 500 block of Star Ridge Road in Carthage shortly after 10 p.m.

According to authorities on scene, the driver of a Ford truck was traveling east on Star Ridge Road toward Joel Road when the vehicle left the roadway in the area of Weatherford Lane.

The truck traveled along an embankment before hitting a power pole on the passenger side, then spun around and overturned before coming to a stop on its roof in the roadway.

The impact caused the power pole to split about halfway up, but it was still intact.

The truck was heavily damaged in the crash, including the driver’s rear wheel being completely ripped off and part of the exhaust being torn off. When the truck struck the power pole, a section of the bed was ripped away from the truck as well.

There was debris, including an exhaust pipe and broken pieces of the rear wheel, scattered over 100 yards along both sides of the road.

He was checked out by EMS and released back into the custody of North Carolina State Highway Patrol before being taken to jail for several pending charges.
