Occupant, pets safe after Aberdeen house fire

Fire stations across Moore County responded to a house fire on the outskirts of Aberdeen on Friday. The occupant and all pets made it out safely, and after a long, intensive battle, the fire was extinguished.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m., first responders were alerted to a fire reported in the 100 block of Lena Circle, only a few miles from the nearby Hoke County border. Firefighters were quick to arrive and battle the blaze at the single-story, single-family home that had neighboring buildings and outdoor structures.

Even with such a large response, it took nearly an hour for the fire to be completely extinguished.

According to Aberdeen Fire and Rescue officials, the occupant, who initially called in the fire, evacuated the home safely, and all pets on the premises were safe and accounted for.

The fire did not have a chance to spread to nearby buildings or vehicles parked on-site. Before the fire was put out, a smoke column could be seen from Highway 211, and extra tankers of water and an air and light truck were brought in from neighboring municipalities.

Lena Circle, a gravel country lane, was initially blocked off and lined with a barrage of fire trucks and other emergency response vehicles as firefighters grappled with getting the situation under control.

The fire’s cause and the damage’s extent are still under investigation at this time, according to authorities on the scene. Lumbee River Electric Membership Corporation arrived to cut power to the house to prevent any further potential hazards for the foreseeable future.

Responding to the scene were Aberdeen Fire and Rescue, Fort Bragg Fire and Rescue, Pinebluff Fire Department, Pine Hill Fire Department, Pinehurst Fire Department, Seven Lakes Fire Department, Southern Pines Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, and Lumbee River EMC.
