One airlifted after pickup strikes tree in Pinehurst

Two people were injured, one of whom was airlifted, after a pickup truck veered off the road and struck a tree on Morganton Road near the Monticello intersection. The crash happened in Pinehurst on Friday afternoon shortly before 2 p.m. and resulted in both occupants requiring medical attention. 

According to authorities on scene, the female passenger was airlifted in stable condition to a trauma center. EMS transported her from the crash site to a landing zone set up at the Pinehurst Harness Track, where a MedCenter Air helicopter, assisted by the Pinehurst Fire Department, awaited to transport her.

The male driver was taken by EMS to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in a second ambulance. The extent of his injuries and condition are unknown at this time. 

The Pinehurst Police Department is investigating the cause of the accident.

Responding agencies included Pinehurst Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and Pinehurst Police.
