Passengers escape injury in crash

Passengers of two vehicles escaped a crash Monday morning with no injuries.

The accident was dispatched shortly after 10 a.m. while Southern Pines Fire and Rescue members were on another call. Units from both Southern Pines stations responded to the accident.

When the collision happened, a minivan was going across Morganton Road from Brucewood Road, and a Chrysler sedan was heading west on Morganton.

The van suffered heavy front-end damage and stopped at the intersection. The car suffered damage on the driver’s front side and had blown tires. The impact was severe enough to send the sedan over the curb and into the field at the corner of Morganton and Brucewood roads.

According to Southern Pines Fire and Rescue, no one was injured, but there was a lot of damage. The turning lane and right lane on Morganton Road were closed for an extended time while firefighters cleared fluid and other debris that stretched along Morganton Road.

The Southern Pines Police Department is investigating the cause of the accident. Officers were taking witnesses’ statements.
