Person airlifted after propane truck flips

A driver was airlifted after his propane truck overturned in a yard outside of Pinehurst Friday.

The single-vehicle wreck occurred on Linden Road near Burning Tree Road just before 9:45 a.m.

The driver was airlifted to UNC Hospitals.

The McNeill Oil & Propane truck tore down several power poles, and the electricity was turned off to the nearby homes.

“Due to the fuel cleanup associated with this accident, the southern end of Linden Road will be closed from Hwy. 5, S. to Sandy Wood Farm for an extended time,” said the Village of Pinehurst on its Facebook page. “Please continue to avoid the area until at least midnight.”

A North Carolina Hazardous Material Regional Response Team from Fayetteville was called to the scene.
