half Pinehurst Healthcare and Rehab residents positive COVID-19

Moore County Health Department Wednesday said 31 people at Pinehurst Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center have tested positive for COVID-19, which more than doubles the cases for Moore County. This brings the county’s cases to 51, with two deaths.

“Of the entire resident population of ninety-six, twenty-six test results have returned positive,” said the health department in a statement. “In addition to the twenty-six positive resident tests, out of a staff of one-hundred fifteen, five staff members have also tested positive. These are preliminary numbers, not all results for the residents and staff have been received at the time of this release. Once those results are received, Moore County Health Department will provide an update.”

Pinehurst Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center announced Wednesday they were recently notified that some of their employees tested positive for coronavirus.

“As a result, we have been working in cooperation with the Moore County Health Department and FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital to have all of our residents and employees tested,” said Pinehurst Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in a statement.

The facility’s residents were tested Tuesday. Most staff members have been tested as of Wednesday.

“This afternoon we began receiving results for some of the resident tests,” said the nursing facility. “We wish to inform you that a number of our residents have been diagnosed as having the Coronavirus. The results of the tests that we have received have been shared with the affected residents and their families. We hope to receive the rest of the results of the resident tests tomorrow and will provide you with this information.”

Residents who have been diagnosed with the virus are currently not displaying “severe symptoms and signs of respiratory distress.”

Residents of the facility who have tested positive are isolated from others. The center said it is working with local and state health officials to stop the spread of the virus at its facility and is monitoring and caring for its residents.

The facility is located on Blake Boulevard. It is managed by Liberty Healthcare and Rehabilitation Services in Wilmington.
