Pinehurst Resort to host 2027 PGA National Club Championship

The Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) of America officials announced Tuesday that the 2027 PGA National Club Championship will be held at Pinehurst Resort from March 15–17, 2027.

The championship brings together amateur club champions from golf facilities across the United States, each competing alongside a PGA of America Golf Professional. Winners of 2026 club championships whose names are submitted by their PGA professionals will be eligible to apply for the national event.

“The PGA of America is thrilled to bring the 2027 PGA National Club Championship to the world-renowned Pinehurst Resort,” said Eric Eshleman, secretary of the PGA of America. “Beyond showcasing the country’s best amateur club champions, this event shines a light on the PGA of America Golf Professionals who fuel their success.”

The tournament features six divisions for men and women, including open, senior (50 and older), and legend (65 and older) categories. Competitors will play a three-day, 54-hole stroke play format, with rounds scheduled across Pinehurst’s No. 2, No. 4, and No. 5 courses.

Founded in 1895, Pinehurst Resort is widely known as the “Cradle of American Golf,” praises the PGA. The 2,200-acre property includes 10 golf courses, a nine-hole short course known as The Cradle, a 75,000-square-foot putting course called Thistle Dhu, tennis facilities, and lodging accommodations.

“Pinehurst has long been a home for amateur golf and a place where the game’s traditions and competitive spirit come together,” said Andrea Ries, PGA director of resort championships at Pinehurst. “We’re honored to host the 2027 PGA National Club Championship and to welcome club champions from across the country.”

Pinehurst No. 2, designed by renowned golf course architect Donald Ross, has hosted more championships than any course in the United States. Its history includes the 1936 PGA Championship, the 1951 Ryder Cup, and multiple U.S. Opens, most recently in 2024.

The resort has also been designated by the United States Golf Association as the first U.S. Open anchor site, with future championships scheduled for 2029, 2035, 2041, and 2047. It is also set to host the 2027 U.S. Women’s Amateur on courses No. 2 and No. 4.

Pinehurst No. 4, redesigned in 2018 by Gil Hanse, has earned national recognition and previously hosted the 2019 U.S. Amateur. Pinehurst No. 5, designed by Ellis Maples, is known for its scenic layout and signature par-3 14th hole, often called the “Cathedral Hole.”

In addition to the National Club Championship, Pinehurst regularly hosts other amateur competitions, including the PGA High School Golf National Invitational and the PGA NCCGA Pinehurst Open.
