Planning for the development of West Pinehurst Community Park is moving forward. The Village of Pinehurst will offer a variety of ways the community can provide valuable input and feedback to guide the direction of the site master plan for the park.
In early 2021, the parks and recreation department contracted with McAdams Consulting Firm to provide site master planning and design services for the project and will facilitate gathering public input.
Two virtual public workshops are scheduled on Tuesday, May 4, to introduce the project and receive feedback on proposed park program elements and amenities, park character, and perceived recreation needs to enhance the direction of the final site master plan.
The hour-long workshops take place from 10-11 a.m. or 6:30-7:30 p.m. on the Zoom platform. Those unable to attend the virtual workshops can provide input and ask questions on the Engage Pinehurst portal at engage.vopnc.org/parkplan.
An online survey will launch Tuesday, May 4 after the virtual workshops and remain open until Monday, May 17.
Virtual workshop information and the survey will be posted on the Engage Pinehurst portal.
Anyone without access to the internet can take the survey beginning Wednesday, May 5 during business hours at the Cannon Park Community Center, located at 210 Rattlesnake Tr.
West Pinehurst Community Park is located 1.4 miles off Linden Road at 861 Chicken Plant Rd. The 74-acre property is home to the Village’s 18-hole disc golf course. The remaining area includes a small pond, open space, natural vegetation, and rolling hills with the potential to offer a variety of passive and active recreation.
During the 2019 long-range planning process Envision the Village, residents expressed the need for a new sports and recreation facility to accommodate the athletic needs of the community. The parks and recreation department used this public feedback to launch the site master planning process and will continue to seek community input throughout the development.
Village staff and consultants will use the feedback to conceptualize an initial plan to be presented for public review in mid-June.
