Rabid bats prompt warning to Moore County residents

Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields said two confirmed rabies cases were reported within one week.

“On May 23 and 24, Moore County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services deputies responded to residences in Aberdeen and West End, respectively, where occupants had encountered bats,” said Fields in a statement issued to Sandhills Sentinel.

Both bats were sent for testing and were confirmed to be rabid.

This is the sixth case of rabies in the county this year.

Fields “urges citizens to be vigilant in protecting themselves and their pets throughout the county.”
