Seven Lakes wreck shuts down part of Highway 211

A two-vehicle crash in the Seven Lakes community in West End on Tuesday caused a partial closure of Highway 211. Just before 5 p.m., first responders were called to a wreck involving an overturned SUV at Highway 211 and Seven Lakes Drive.

Seven Lakes Fire and Rescue said on its Facebook page that a portion of Highway 211 was closed and that they would advise when the road was cleared.

About 25 minutes later, Seven Lakes Fire and Rescue added a public service announcement on its Facebook page.

“When our crews are directing traffic around a motor vehicle accident, pay attention to their signals and commands stay off your phones!!!” wrote the fire department. “We understand everyone has somewhere they’re trying to go, and we do our best to keep traffic running as smoothly as possible, but we need your help never go in between cones unless specifically told to do so and NEVER ever run over our cones!!”

It’s unclear if anyone was injured.

This is the second overturned wreck Sandhills Sentinel reported Tuesday.

Authorities responded to a wreck in Southern Pines on South May Street and East Massachusetts Avenue in the morning. Motorists had to reroute as officials closed part of South May Street around 10:30 a.m.

A Jeep flipped on its roof; a car sustained front-end damage, with the bumper ripped off.
