Student-Athlete Spotlight: Jayden Dobeck

Pinecrest High School senior Jayden Dobeck is October’s Student-Athlete Spotlight.

Jayden was nominated by his coach Bob Curtin. He nominated Jayden for his outstanding work on the mat, leadership, and success. Jayden is a decorated wrestler at Pinecrest High School with six different titles.

“He is just a great kid from a great wrestling family,” said Curtin. “He walked onto the campus as a young freshman and made an immediate impact. He was a state runner-up as a freshman too. Great teammate and mentor to the young guys. He is also a three-year captain too.”

Jayden won three conference championships throughout his career at Pinecrest. In his freshman year, he placed fourth at regionals and second at state. In his sophomore year, he won regionals. Last year, Jayden won regionals and a 4A state championship.

“I love the grind in wrestling,” said Jayden. “I love how the hard work in practice pays off on the mat.”

Jayden has a 3.5 GPA and committed to wrestle at Appalachian State University. “I want to be a pilot, so I plan to get my pilot’s license during my second semester and major in business,” said Jayden.

If there is any spare time from school, practice, or working for a local landscape company, Jayden likes to hang out with friends and go fishing or hunting.

Jayden has begun practicing for this season with his team. Even though Jayden has big plans in the future, he has his eyes set on more titles this year.

“My greatest memory was winning a state championship,” said Jayden. “I definitely plan on repeating that this year.”
