A man was shot and killed after an exchange of gunfire with Pinehurst Police Officers and Moore County Deputies Saturday morning.
When law enforcement arrived at a home for a domestic incident in the 100 block of Forrest Place Drive just before 3:00 a.m., the man began shooting at the officers, authorities said.
The police returned fire, killing Arthur Kenzie Garner, 33.
Pinehurst Police Chief Earl Phipps advised that his officers were uninjured, and the SBI is actively investigating the shooting.
Moore County Chief Deputy Frank Rodriguez informed Sandhills Sentinel that no deputies were injured in the incident.
“All deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure,” said Rodriquez. “The suspect did make threats to law enforcement prior to the arrival of deputies. Within seconds of arriving on the scene, the suspect opened fire on law enforcement.”
Moore County Law enforcement at the scene were Sgt. Sean Ballard, Corp. Dustin Hussey, Deputy Justin Mack, and Deputy Stephanie Griffin.
Pinehurst Police Officers at the scene were Sergeant Jason Caulder and Officer Michael Muse.
Authorities did not release how many shots fired or details about the 911 call before the shooting.
