Suspect who walked away from hospital captured

A suspect who Pinehurst Police were searching for after he left Moore Regional Hospital while receiving treatment on Jan. 15 was captured Tuesday after Moore County Deputies “discovered a vehicle being broken into and vandalized” in Vass.

Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields announced the arrest of Robert Fowler Jr. and Austin Ward.

Fowler, 36, was placed at the Moore County Detention Center under a $75,000 secured bond and charged with felony larceny, felony possession of stolen goods, possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon, larceny of motor vehicle parts, breaking and entering to a motor vehicle, trafficking in opium or heroin, possession of heroin, and possession of drug paraphernalia not for marijuana.

Fowler, of Vass, was in the process of being served with an arrest warrant at the hospital; however, he was not in police custody while he was receiving treatment.

Pinehurst residents were warning neighbors that Fowler broke into area vehicles, homes, and had been hiding in crawl spaces after he fled the hospital.

Ward, 20, of Broadway, was charged with breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, larceny of motor vehicle parts, identity theft, assault on a government official, and two counts of resisting a public officer. His bond was set at $30,000.

Both suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
