On Wednesday afternoon, a shooting occurred during a home invasion at The Highlands Apartments in Southern Pines.
According to authorities on the scene, two male victims suffered gunshot wounds at 4 p.m. on August 30. The victims reportedly left in a private vehicle and were able to make it to an area hospital for treatment, though their current condition is unknown.
The suspects fled the crime scene. The Southern Pines Police Department is currently conducting an investigation and working to identify the suspects.
Southern Pines Police Chief Nick Polidori said this was a home invasion, but it is unclear at this time if it was targeted.
Yellow police tape could be seen around the apartment building, which is located off Richards Street, as officers investigated both inside of the apartment and the surrounding areas around the unit.
