Suspicious car parked at store leads to drug arrest

A Robbins man was arrested after a suspicious car was parked at Hancock’s Country Store while it was closed.

The Moore County Sheriff’s Department was operating a saturation patrol assignment in the Spies area of Moore County on Jan. 18.

“While intensely working this area, detectives observed a vehicle parked next to Hancock’s Country Store located at 2697 Spies Road,” said Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields in a statement to Sandhills Sentinel. “Hancock’s Country Store was closed at the time the vehicle was observed on the store property, so an investigation commenced. During the investigation, a search of the vehicle was conducted revealing methamphetamine, hydrocodone, marijuana, and items of drug paraphernalia. Investigators found probable cause to arrest the passenger of the vehicle, which concluded the investigation.”

Danny Privette, 51, was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana up to one-half ounce, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Privette was also on probation for a prior felony drug violation, so pursuant to recently enacted HB-813, he was committed to the Moore County Detention Center without bond pending a court date on Jan. 31.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
