Yvonne Council of Southern Pines passed away Monday, January 29th, 2024, at the age of 85.
Yvonne was born in Moore County on April 25 th, 1938, to the late Pervis and Ruby Thomas. Yvonne was the oldest child of a family of eight children and grew up in Vass. Yvonne married her husband of 65 years, Red Council, and became a dedicated mother to her children, with a dedication that lasted throughout her many years of always providing loving support for all her children’s endeavors. Yvonne loved her children and had a love for all children, which led her to serve in a daycare center that, for many years, provided a safe and nurturing environment for many toddlers in the community.
After her children left home and the daycare days were over, Yvonne effortlessly moved into the grandmother role. Spending endless hours with her granddaughter in her younger years and then being there for the trials of the teen years and having the cozy couch and an open heart, when needed, for the young adult.
Holidays with the family were always centered around Yvonne’s kitchen and the amazing meals she always provided with a favorite dish for everyone, which she served with love and care. Yvonne always had handmade biscuits or cornbread with every meal.
Yvonne loved watching her birds and loved to share her love of her dragon flies with all her family and friends that stopped by on a daily basis. Throughout her life and to the very end, she was a loving, caring, dedicated mother and grandmother and a close, dear friend to many in her community.
Yvonne leaves behind her daughters, Pam Shiflett (Billy), Andrea Council, Lisa Fisher (Jim), granddaughter, Ashley, and sister Kaye McConnel.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, February 3rd, 2024, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church beginning at 2:00 pm with Pastor Gregg Newton officiating.
Care of the family is entrusted to Crumpler Funeral Home-Aberdeen.
